Job Title: Ready Mix Dispatcher FLSA status: Non-Exempt
Location: Wichita, KS Reports to: Dispatch Supervisor

 

Summary:
This is a skilled position requiring an understanding of the ready-mix concrete business. The dispatcher processes and coordinates the phone sales and distribution of concrete for multiple plants and vendors. Dispatch must be aware of special jobsite conditions that require specific trucks, spacing and slump requirements. The dispatcher needs to be familiar with the delivery area and must be able to assist lost drivers in finding jobsites, determine travel times to jobs. Dispatchers must be customer service minded, be able to perform efficiently under pressure and work long hours when required.

Essential Functions:

  • Must provide excellent customer service by phone and in person.
  • Communicate all pertinent dispatch activities to the proper individual, customer, or driver.
  • Responsible for the assignment and/or re-assignment of haulers for projects and fixed plants.
  • Track orders while watching demand, utilization, and capacity while prioritizing work.
  • Monitor and track hauler performance, arrival times, loads per day and overall customer satisfaction.
  • Provide customer support (i.e., respond to inquiries, provide alternatives)
  • Identify potential problems or opportunities.
  • Resolve and diffuse complaints.
  • Work with production staff to exceed the customer’s expectation.
  • Identify substitution or service opportunities.
  • Ensure all orders are complete and accurate in detail.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Previous experience in dispatching or logistics preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to type and use keyboards accurately and have knowledge of Database software. Should be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Microsoft Word).

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, kneel, and bend. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move from 1-20 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Other Skills & Abilities

  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • The ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to work overtime, as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilites: None 

Work Environment: Typical standard Office setting with open assigned cubicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
