Position Title: Heavy Haul Transport Driver FLSA status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary:

This is a skilled position requiring a strong dedication to safety, teamwork, and professionalism. The Heavy Haul Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transport of heavy construction equipment and materials plant components. This role requires a skilled driver experienced in operating and maneuvering specialized vehicles and trailers for oversized loads, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. This position plays a crucial role in supporting construction operations by delivering equipment on time and in optimal condition.

Responsibilities:

  • Safely transport heavy equipment and asphalt and concrete plant components to and from job
  • Operate heavy haul trucks with attached trailers (e.g., lowboys, flatbeds) while adhering to all driving safety and DOT regulations.
  • Securely load, bind, and inspect equipment, ensuring safe transport and preventing shifting or damage during
  • Plan and follow optimal routes for oversized loads, considering clearance requirements, weight limits, and any route restrictions.
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and trailer to ensure they meet safety standards and are free from mechanical issues.
  • Maintain compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and federal and state transportation laws, including maintaining accurate logbooks and paperwork.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers, site supervisors, and other team members to coordinate timely pickups and deliveries.
  • Report any maintenance needs to the fleet department and schedule repairs as necessary. Ability to operate, load and unload equipment safely and efficiently.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of one year of experience hauling heavy equipment and oversized loads is
  • Must be flexible to work days, nights or occasional
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate using two-way
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with endorsements for heavy haul/overside
  • Familiarity with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, especially as they pertain to oversized
  • Strong attention to detail, route planning, and load securement with excellent communication

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and is exposed to airborne particles. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
