Position Summary

The Asphalt Plant Scale Operator ensures the accurate weighing and ticketing of materials, supervises truck loading, and manages the scale house at an asphalt production facility. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that operations run smoothly, materials are properly accounted for, and compliance with safety and quality standards is maintained.

Essential Functions

  • Accurately operate scale systems to weigh trucks entering and leaving the plant with asphalt or raw materials.
  • Generate, verify, and distribute tickets for all outgoing trucks, ensuring the correct load information is recorded.
  • Communicate with truck drivers and plant personnel to ensure timely and efficient loading of materials.
  • Enter daily production data and materials usage into the company’s computer system.
  • Act as the point of contact for truck drivers and customers picking up asphalt, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
  • Keep accurate records of all transactions, production totals, and materials inventory.
  • Ensure that all safety protocols are followed during weighing, loading, and unloading operations.
  • Monitor and ensure that trucks are loaded with the correct materials and amounts, as specified by plant and customer requirements.
  • Communicate regularly with plant operators, management, and quality control teams to report on production and delivery status.
  • Ensure scales and other related equipment are functioning properly and report any maintenance or repair needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in Asphalt/Aggregate Plant Operations or similar industrial environments preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to use weighing systems and data entry software efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail ensuring accurate weights and ticketing of materials.
  • Capable of effectively interacting with truck drivers, plant staff, and customers.
  • Ability to Work in a Fast-Paced Environment. This position often requires working under time pressure during peak periods.
  • Basic Math Skills are necessary for calculating material weights and quantities.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically works in a scale house but may occasionally assist in the plant or yard.  May be exposed to outdoor weather, nose, dust, and heavy equipment with exposure to airborne particles.  May require overtime and weekend hours depending on production schedules.
