Position Overview:
The Assistant Superintendent is a key field supervisory role responsible for supporting the Superintendent on heavy civil and other infrastructure projects such as highways, roads, parking lots, etc. The position will support the execution of daily operations and coordinating crews to meet the company’s production goals while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist the Superintendent in planning the day-to-day operations of concrete paving operations of each assigned project.
• Implement and enforce safety protocols in accordance with OSHA and company guidelines.
• Supervise foremen, operators, laborers, and subcontractors on project sites to monitor performance.
• Read and interpret blueprints and detail sheets.
• Monitor material deliveries, equipment maintenance and recommend adjustments in coordination with the Superintendent.
• Work closely with the quality control team to maintain product consistency and troubleshoot any issues.
• Conduct regular safety audits and ensure all equipment (slipform pavers, curb machines, finishing tools, etc.) is maintained to safety standards.
• Ensure compliance with all environmental and regulatory standards, including waste management.
• Support training and development opportunities to team members and promote best practices in paving.
• Resolve conflicts, manage performance, and foster a collaborative work environment providing documentation to Superintendent.
• Assist with on-site problem solving, communicate with inspectors/clients and help resolve field issues.
• Ensure that all paving equipment is in good working condition and meets safety standards.
• Lead crews and manage portions of the project when the Superintendent is unavailable.
• Commitment to safety compliance and risk management.
Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 3-7 years of experience in concrete paving operations or a similar role.
• Strong knowledge of concrete mix designs, placement techniques, and specifications for infrastructure projects.
• Experience managing multiple projects.
• Excellent leadership and team management skills.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Knowledge of safety, environmental, and industry regulations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Valid Kansas driver’s license required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Will support Superintendent in supervising approximately 50-85 employees.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and is exposed to airborne particles. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
