Position Overview:
This position is responsible for each project assigned from initial take-off and bid proposal to scheduling the field and managing the job to successful completion. The Estimator/Project Manager will coordinate with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform take-off and estimate heavy highway, municipality, and commercial construction projects specifically in Earthwork, Asphalt and Concrete Paving, and Utilities.
- Prepare cost estimates on proposals, projects, and studies; and ensure content of each estimate is complete, accurate and meets the requirements of the Estimating Manager.
- Communicate well with all owners, subcontractors, vendors, office, and field personnel; manage all questions and any scope issues.
- Prepare subcontractor and vendor scope sheets, send/process all subcontractor/vendor RFP’s.
- Establish detailed cost breakdowns for self-performed work.
- Calculate trucking, production, and crew hours specific to each project estimate.
- Oversee project; work with the field to deliver each job on time and on budget.
- Compose change orders, RFI’s, submittals, close out documents and any others as needed.
- Manage multiple estimates and projects simultaneously.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A 4-year degree in construction management and/or civil engineering is desired, but not necessary for a candidate with equivalent experience in heavy highway, civil, and commercial construction, and site development.
- Field and Estimating experience are desired.
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience in civil, and heavy highway construction.
- Must be able to read and interpret plans and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must manage time wisely with exceptional organizational skills.
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles.
- Must have excellent computer skills and be proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Experience with Bid-2-Win (B2W), Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, Primavera, Trimble Business Center and Viewpoint software a plus.
- Valid Kansas driver’s license.
